It’s monsoon season in Tucson.  This is my FAVORITE time of year in Tucson.  That is to say, during monsoon season I don’t loathe being here, and I actually enjoy it.

Storms make me giddy.  I’m like a kid on Christmas morning.  Everything inside of me gets all jumpy and I can’t stop smiling.

And it’s not just the storms – though they are AWESOME……

In Tucson, when we have monsoon season, the storms are followed by the most phenominal sunsets on the planet!!  Anyone who has ever lived here knows how electric and vibrant they are.  It’s stunning to see the sky with those brilliant colors!

So this monsoon season has sucked @ss!! I live on the FAAARRRR east side of Tucson.  We are as far east as you can be while still being IN Tucson.  I love it here because at this time of year we get ALL the storms, while other parts of town might get half of them.  Not this year though.  Green Valley and Sahuarita have been getting all the action – and in like major ways that almost make me want to abandon the house and just live homeless there.

Even the really great storms that look like they are going to absolutely demolish us, have split and created like an alley as they pass, and left us pretty dry.  (I’m a radar hound at this time of year as you can imagine!)

…………until yesterday……………

The storms started early in the day and I even had rain on the way to work, where normally they start building around 2 in the afternoon, and then dump on us for like 2-3 hours in the evening.

Yesterday at work, this MAJOR storm hit…….we lost power (which made me all squirelly), and the parking lot litterally turned into a pond.  We had sideways rain…..and sideways trees!!!!

I get home and Craig tells me that there was just a light rain at the house.  So for the first time in FOREVER I was so excited to have been at work instead of at home.

So we had some errands to do and hop in the car to head into town.  We get maybe a mile and a half up the street – and the telephone/electrical poles that run the distance of the east side of Fantasy Island are down.

But when I say “down”……you don’t get it.  THE FIRST 11 POLES HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY SNAPPED IN TWO!!! ELEVEN OF THEM!!!

From between 10 and 15 feet off the ground they were snapped like enormous toothpicks, and then the next 2 after that had the cross sections at the top snapped off.

IT WAS AMAZING!!!  The power cords were just laying in Fantasy Island for the length of it…….ELEVEN!!

Any bordering sides of the road near the downed lines were blocked by police and there were like 4 TEP trucks, and maybe 15 TEP workers out there on the job.  When we came home they were of course still out there, with the big spotlights and such, sitting ON the wires they were working on, like they were little swings…..but by this morning Craig said the poles were all back up.  GOOD JOB TEP GUYS!!

GOD I LOVE MONSOON SEASON!!

Gotta go – we’re getting completely hammered by a wonderful storm as I type!  (It’s always better when Candi is here to play in the rain with me though!)
