This week was our first wedding anniversary ~ which was VERY exciting for us. So we planned a day together doing stuff we love to do. Kinda. We love to be out of the country, but we couldn’t do that. We spent the day doing things that poor people love to do.
We started by SLEEPING IN!!! That’s become like my number one favorite thing to do ever in the entire world. So it was the perfect way to start our day.
We drove out to Sonoita to try a new bike trail Buck found. It was a cool trail and the views were absolutely beautiful. The hills are all brown right now, the area is much prettier when everything is green and lush. Even so, the vast rolling hills create a wonderful backdrop for the sucking and gasping for air that I was doing.
We’ve not been riding a whole lot lately, just because by the time I get home from school it’s already dark – and we don’t have night lamps for night riding. So to say we’re a little out of shape is probably a little kind. Buck of course did better than I did – as usual. I’m not a fan of long climbs as it is. The first 2 miles of this ride was completely uphill. Nothing super steep, but we climbed 350 feet in that distance. If I remember correctly, 349 of those feet were all within the space of .000001 of a mile. ICK!
We look forward to doing that trail again when we’ve been riding a little more. The entire trail is roughly 40 miles long – we should be ready by next weekend? Not so much.
Then it was off to Elgin, just past Sonoita to the Sonoita Winery to pick up a couple more bottles of my favorite wine. On our way we noticed there were several NEW wineries that have popped up since we were last out there. We were very intrigued, so we decided we would stop and check them out on our way back.
We were happy to learn that Sonoita WInery is having a big festival on the 10th – so we will definately be out there to check out the new releases they are putting out this year.
On the way back we stopped at the 3 new wineries and found some interesting wines that we felt needed a home in our wine racks. Buck did a good job of not picking up any Syrahs. He was told “no no” since there are about 742 bottles of Syrah and Shiraz currenlty in the racks! We showed a great deal of restraint in arriving home with only 4 new bottles of wine to add to the collection. That’s the least amount of damage a trip to Sonoita has EVER caused us! But remember, we’re going back in 2 weeks….the worst of it might still be coming.
After we got home, we went out to eat. If you’ve ever been around when I have had crab legs, you know it’s something to be seen. There’s no mercy to be had, and probably best you don’t interrupt until I’ve finished. All of my focus goes into getting every single little piece of crab meat out of the shells. Craig’s sister is the same way. When we were in Vegas for the wedding we went to a buffet that had crab legs, and it seems there was (SERIOUSLY) only ONE coctail fork in the whole place!! So we had to share it! It was a mess. We took turns staring at each other much like Daisy stares at Copper when he has one of the toys that she wants to play with. “Are you done? How about now? Finished yet?!?! Your turn is OVER! Oh COME ON!! Give me the fork!”
At dinner, however, more important than the crab (which is not generally easy to pull off) Craig handed me a long, rectangular jewelry box and told me that he loooooved me. I opened it and there was the most amazing and beautiful string of black pearls. Now I was completely torn. For anyone keeping count, you’ll remember that I also received a new string of white freshwater pearls last Saturday – for no reason at all! Since this was our first time out since the first string of pearls, I had worn those to dinner. Well, now I have ANOTHER new string that had to be put on immediately. I took off the white ones, and put on the black ones – which matched fabulously with my sheer black shirt by the way…. Unfortunately now I need something to wear my pretty white pearls to.
Here are some pictures from our day. Admittedly, not a stellar day in the photo taking day, but it’s what I have.

My new strand of black pearls (OBVIOUSLY, I’m not a jewlery photographer
…they are blury) :
My pearls from LAST week, that were for no reason other than because “he loves me” - also blury. I wish you could actually see how beautiful they are, but you get the idea:
We had a great day together, as usual. Today we slept in, and are just being lazy and watching football. All in all, just about a perfect weekend to celebreate our first anniversary. I’m wild, crazy in love. I know how lucky I am, as some people – even some people who get married – never find what we have. We’re like giddy little kids on a first date.
